Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Cipher (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Cipher is a voice-to-notes application that uses speech recognition and AI models to transcribe spoken audio and organize it into structured notes, including titles, summaries, action items, project tags, and keywords.

3. Use License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Cipher for personal or commercial purposes on devices you own or control, in accordance with these terms and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

4. Privacy & Data

Cipher is designed with privacy as a core principle. When using on-device AI models:

• No account or sign-up is required.
• All notes, transcripts, and voice data are stored locally on your device using secure storage.
• On-device AI models process data without an internet connection.
• Your voice data never leaves your device.

If you choose to use the optional Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) cloud AI feature, your transcript data is sent directly from your device to the third-party AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Google, Anthropic) using your own API key. Synonymy does not receive, store, or process this data. You are subject to the third-party provider’s terms and privacy policy.

5. On-Device AI Models

Cipher includes on-device AI models (such as Gemma, Qwen, and Llama) that run entirely on your device. These models are provided under their respective open-source licenses. The output quality may vary depending on the model selected and your device’s hardware capabilities.

6. User Content

You retain ownership of all content you create using Cipher, including voice recordings, transcripts, notes, and to-dos. Synonymy does not claim any rights to your content. Since all data is stored locally, you are responsible for backing up your content.

7. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App or its AI models.
• Use the App to record conversations without the consent of all parties where required by law.
• Redistribute, sublicense, or resell the App or any part of it.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

Cipher is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. AI-generated content such as titles, summaries, to-dos, and project assignments may not always be accurate. You should review AI-generated output before relying on it.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Synonymy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Cipher, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or device performance issues related to on-device AI processing.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of Cipher after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
